The Soils inventories and surveys for Scotland Land Capability datasets have been supplied by the Scottish Government in connection with the licence agreement between The James Hutton Institute and the Scottish Government. Data files include 1:25,000, 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 shape files and associated DBF files as well as Classifications for agriculture and forestry Scottish peat surveys, and the Scottish Soils Knowledge and Information Base (SSKIB).
The SSKIB Excel file contains metadata relating to database content.

All soil attribute data obtained during the national soils inventory and surveys for Scotland
(NSIS1, 1978-1987 and the NSIS2, 2006-2011 ) and related, relevant information (where
available in a spatially referenced electronic format) and incorporating but not limited to the
1:250000 scale and 1:25000 scale vector data sets of the soils of Scotland

Soils inventories and surveys for Scotland Land Capability datasets are available through licence from the Scottish Government and the James Hutton Institute. Unrestricted access is granted to all 'employees' at the University of Edinburgh. Please contact the Data Library for access (email: email@example.com ).
Students will need to apply to the Scottish Government for an end-user licence first, indicating what data they require, for what project, and the start and end date of their project (after the project is done they are required to delete the data).
