Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) International

IPUMS-International is a project run by the Minnesota Population Center dedicated to collecting and distributing international individual and household level (microdata) census data, modelled on the IPUMS-USA data system. The data consist of samples from population censuses from around the world taken since 1960. The data are anonymized and de-identified, and variables have been harmonised to enable cross-national and cross-temporal comparisons. Extensive documentation is available. Data are freely available from over 250 censuses conducted in over 70 countries, for over 560 million individuals, including UK data from 1991 and 2001. Some statistical analysis can be performed on-line, using the SDA interface, and data can be downloaded with SAS, SPSS or Stata syntax files for further analysis.  Registration is required for access to data.
