The multilingual Europeana portal promotes and facilitates the exploration and discovery of the rich and diverse digital resources of the museums, libraries and archives of Europe from a single point of access. The 1500 or so institutions that have contributed to Europeana include the British Library, the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre.

The millions of items available in Europeana, from ancient times to the modern day, include: 

  • Drawings, maps, photos and pictures of museum objects
  • Books, newspapers, letters, diaries and archives
  • Music, the spoken word from cylinders, tapes, discs and radio
  • Films, newsreels and TV
