Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN)

As an organisation set up to track global change, CIESIN provides access to a range of georeferenced datasets as well as online analysis tools, such as Demographic Data Cartogram Service--interactive order of 1990 census data in prominent GIS data formats, Chinese Censuses, Model Visualization and Analysis for Integrated Assessment Models of Climate Change, Gridded Population of the World (world and continental population counts and density on a 5 minute grid), Monitoring Environmental Progress--interactive query of the World Bank's database of indicators of environmentally sustainable development, a population estimation service, Population, Landscape And Climate Estimates (PLACE), US boundary data, species distribution grids, the Global Rural-Urban Mapping Project (GRUMP). The site also links to a range of projects and programs including: Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) and World Data Center (WDC) for Human Interactions in the Environment as well as a range of education and outreach resources.
